Abstract

SUMMARY: Lithuanian scholar, Vasilius Safronovas, proposes an analytical overview of the politics of remembrance in present-day Lithuania. He traces transformations of historical concepts of the Lithuanian past throughout the twentieth century and shows how internal and external political factors have led to hegemonization of some particular versions of the past and memories of particular social and ethnic groups of the Lithuanian population. The author’s main concern is current memorial constructions of the dominant canon of the history of Lithuanian statehood.
