Abstract

This study aims to analyze the features of the design components of Hanbok design through Hanbok shown in online games. The features of Hanbok were analyzed by examining previous studies related to the costumes of the characters of the game. The results of the comparative analysis of Hanbok features expressed based on the derived features are as follows. First, the beauty of traditional Hanbok is elegant, dignified, and refined. However, in hanbok features in online games, sensuality often appeared in a way that emphasized beauty by exposing parts of the body or exposing sensuality. Second, the boundaries of various cultures, eras, and genders were broken down and reinterpreted in a modern sense, or convergence was expressed through mixing with contemporary fashion. Third, it is the nature of Internet games, in which the combative genres in the virtual world is the main theme. In the costumes in the game, mechanical, high-tech, and cosmic elements were reflected in the design for the future orientation. Fourth, rather than reflecting the grotesque and excessive reduction or expansion of general clothing design, the traditionality of Hanbok was expressed by using the unique shape, composition, and color of Hanbok. This study is meaningful in understanding the current status of hanbok design expression. Furthermore, for the dissemination and development of Korean culture, it is expected that meaningful designs that combine symbolism and story and shape and silhouette of Hanbok will be presented as costumes in the game.
