Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the contrastive errors made by Japanese learners of Korean verbs, including “verbs,” “adjectives,” “auxiliary verbs,” and “determiners,” and to provide suggestions for vocabulary education for Japanese learners based on the results. To achieve this, the National Institute of Korean Language’s learner error annotated corpus was used to extract errors made by Japanese learners of Korean verbs. The results were classified into three categories: “interlanguage errors,” “intralanguage errors,” and “errors caused by the interaction of interlanguage and intralanguage factors.” Errors caused by Japanese interference were further subdivided into “errors caused by differences in vocabulary correspondence between Korean and Japanese” and “errors related to word formation.” Finally, based on the analysis results, suggestions for vocabulary education for Japanese learners were provided, which include presenting vocabulary through word lists, and cautions for teachers such as differences in honorific language between Japan and Korea. The findings of this study can serve as a fundamental resource for developing effective vocabulary instruction for Japanese learners.
