Abstract

Modern literary criticism faces the problem of renewing the view on G. R. Derzhavin’s creative work; there is a necessity to acquire deeper understanding of the poet’s personality in the context of his epoch. To trace Derzhavin’s creative path, the paper for the first time examines his works in the context of particular periodicals of that time and analyzes how the poet followed the trends of the periodical press of the end of the XVIII - the beginning of the XIX century. The researcher organizes the list of magazines the poet worked on and concludes that magazines and almanacs played a considerable role in Derzhavin’s creative work: periodicals he worked on can serve as landmarks of his creative biography.
