Abstract
The article examines functional-stylistic peculiarities of the action nouns used in the Tatar educational prose of the end of the XIX - the beginning of the XX century. The paper aims to identify the place of these units within the grammatical and stylistic system of the literary Tatar language of the mentioned period. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the researchers introduce new factual material into scientific circulation: action nouns ending in -у, -мак, -ма, -маклык have not been previously subjected to a systemic analysis. The conducted research allows concluding that the functional-stylistic potential of certain action nouns remained undisclosed, which led to disappearance of forms on -мак, -ма, -маклык from the literary Tatar language.
