Abstract
During the Byzantine rule (11th – 12th c.) Bulgarian boyars retained a certain role in the rule of their native country. They had their own military detachments and felt full fledged masters in their own lands. Among the boyars there are representatives of the noble Bulgarian families – for example the family of the Kavkhans.
