Abstract

The paper aims to reveal specificity of the attributes functioning in S. T. Coleridge’s poem “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner”, the earliest example of the English romantic poetry. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that relying on quantitative analysis methods, the researcher reveals tendencies in distribution of different types of attributes in the text. The conducted analysis allows identifying hidden principles of attributes distribution. One of the key principles is the principle of compensation when increase in frequency of a particular attribute causes a proportional decrease in frequency of other types of attributes.
