English Abstract: This dialogue was conducted by Ahmad al-Ashwal, the Yemeni journalist, with the Palestinian poet Hilmi Zawati during the activities of the Seventh Marbad Poetry Festival in Baghdad in 1986. The discussion dealt with several overarching core themes, the most important of which is the role of the Festival in supplementing the movement of contemporary Arab poetry with conscious poetic models that are in line with the requirements of the stage, and the role of the Arab intellectuals in spreading awareness among Arab masses, as well as emphasizing human freedom as a prerequisite for creativity. He also reviewed the movement of contemporary poetry in Yemen and demonstrated its pioneering role among the resistance poetry movements in the Arab world.
