Abstract

This paper provides a comparative analysis of the results of assessing belonging to the subspecies Apis mellifera mellifera, depending on the number of analyzed samples from the one colony. Subspecies identification was established using microsatellite loci Ap243, 4a110, A24, A8, A43, A113, A88, Ap049, A28 of nuclear DNA and the COI-COII locus of mitochondrial DNA. We found that when analyzing bees for belonging to the A. m. mellifera, it is important to use at least three samples from each colony. This increases the time and cost of analysis, but gives reliable results for further breeding work. In addition, the role of a favorable drone background for the selection of A. m. mellifera was shown.
