Abstract

This article is intended to review the academic writings on medieval history published by Korean scholars in 2015 and 2016. The periodical categorization is generally accepted, however, this article applied the thematic categorization: 1) Economic History and History of Cultural exchange, 2) Political History and History of Political Culture, 3) Socio-cultural History. As a result of this examination on the whole studies, we can conclude an academic enrichment: not only the expansion of research range but also the thematic diversification, with succession of the traditional political, economic and cultural themes. In addition, we cannot omit a plentiful result of the international academic exchange, such as the 9th Korean-Japanese Symposium on the Western Medieval History in 2016.<BR> With this positive perspective, it is necessary to consider profoundly three points about the studies in Western Medieval History. At first, it is urgent to publish a synthetical and introductory work for korean readers and students about Western Medieval History reflecting recent studies. Secondly, this work has to present a criteria for the World History textbook for Middle and High School. Finally, the members of academia have to ponder the condition for the future academic generation and the academic reproduction in Korea, more and more aggravated.
