Abstract
The purpose of the study is to consider the genesis of representations of the image of Lesya Ukrainka in fi lm documents of the 1940s–1990s; to characterize the documentary array dedicated to the writer from the collection of the Central State Archives of Cinema, Audio and Visual Documents of Ukraine named after H. Pshenychnyi to outline the role of fi lm documents in preserving the memory of her. Research methods. The basis of the study are theoretical developments and concepts of foreign and domestic scientists in the fi eld of source studies, archival studies, memory studies, fi lm studies. The work is carried out using general scientifi c methods of analysis and synthesis based on the principles of historicism and objectivity. Methods of source criticism, chronological, systemic, typological analysis, structural and functional were also used in covering the topic. Scientifi c novelty. The study of perpetuating of the fi gure of Lesya Ukrainka in fi lm documents of the collection of the Central State Archives of Cinema, Audio and Visual Documents of Ukraine named after H. Pshenychnyi has not yet been the subject of scientifi c studies. The study of processes and forms of conscious perpetuation is important and relevant, because it contributes to the understanding of how the past, present and future of society and culture are seen in a certain historical context. Conclusions. An analysis of fi lm documents of the 1940s–1990s (87 units) from collection of the Central State Archives of Cinema, Audio and Visual Documents of Ukraine named after H. Pshenychnyi devoted to the life and work of Lesya Ukrainka, showed that they are interesting examples of forms of cultural memory of Ukrainian society and a grateful source for research of images and ideas that appeared in the mass consciousness with the help of documentary fi lmmaking. The multifaceted nature of the chronicle-documentary material and the thematic diversity of the content allowed to reveal the principles and methods of constructing and representing the image of Lesya Ukrainka in cultural memory. Prospects for further research. Films-performances, video fi lms, TV programs of the end of the 20–21 centuries remained outside the limits of our intelligence. The fi gure and work of Lesya Ukrainka remain a very articulate topic in the Ukrainian cultural environment. The further study of the reception dynamics and originality of representations of the writer’s image can be a productive direction in the study of cultural memory of Ukrainian society.
