Abstract

The article is aimed at analyzing the concepts of timber industrial development of the north of Siberia in the late 1920–1930s. In the strategy of industrialization in the USSR (late 1920s – early 1940s), the north of Siberia with large reserves of natural resources occupied an important place. During this period, attempts were made to plan the development of forest resources of the territory in conditions of poor forest knowledge. The projects were characterized by the gigantic scale of production, involving the integrated use of wood. Timber industry hubs were planned along the banks of large Siberian rivers, in close connection with railway and energy construction projects. In the years of the third five-year plan, versions of the timber industry development of the north of Siberia were processed in connection with the establishment of a water protection zone in the European part of the USSR. The concepts testified to the largest prospects of timber industry hubs in the middle reaches of the Ob River and the Lower Angara region. At the present stage, the analysis of the concepts of timber industrial development of the north of Siberia is important in the design and construction of timber industry enterprises in the macroregion, determining the directions of export of forest resources
