Abstract
The purpose of the article is to reveal the research potential of simulation mathematical modelling for studying military operations of the Great Patriotic War. Using the chosen Lanchester model, the paper carries out a processual reconstruction of the assault on the Oktyabrsky State Farm by the Soviet troops, which was the most important part of the counterattack of the Voronezh Front on July 12, 1943. Scientific novelty of the paper lies in using mathematical modelling to reconstruct the course of the battle, the source base of which does not allow for its unambiguous interpretation. As a result, it is proved that the generally accepted version of the assault on the Oktyabrsky State Farm is more reliable than the course of the battle described in R. von Ribbentrop’s memoirs.
