Abstract

The article is the first part of a series reviewing some recent studies of olfactory imagery in literature - a new trend in literary criticism intensely developed from the beginning of the twenty-first century. Based on a variety of approaches these studies demonstrate a common interest in different types of manifestation of odors in literary texts, in perception of various kinds of smells and aromas and their semantics. This new trend in modern literary studies brought in some new terms as «olfactory space», «olfactory imagery», «odorism», «olfactorium». This part of the reviewing series concerns the Russian poetry studies.
