Abstract

Danghangseong(党項城) was the Tang diplomatic and maritime military base of Silla. Danghangseong is generally regarded as Dangseong(唐城) located in Namyang Bay(南陽灣), Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do. However, it is noteworthy that the opinion that Danghangseong is assumed to be Samjeondo(三⽥渡) of the Han River, not the Dangseong of Nam yang Bay. The ‘Han river(漢江) theory’ of Danghangseong pays attention to the name Danghangjin(党項津) and defines it as Samjeondo along the Han River. Based on this, it insists on Silla's use of the Han River route at the time of the collapse of Baekje. It also claims that Silla failed to take control of southwestern Gyeonggi Province. However, at this stage, the ‘Han River theory’ lacks evidence. In particular, it is difficult to establish due to poor literary and archaeological evidence.
