Abstract

The paper considers specific issues to be encountered while carrying out
 strategic assessment of performance of capital invested in the intellectual
 property assets. Intellectual property items gain value in the context of a certain
 strategy, which defines, how these items contribute to the strategic goals of a
 particular enterprise. Thus, the author concludes, additional while obligatory
 stage of strategic assessment of investment projects concerned should be
 incorporated in the procedure of evaluating economic efficiency of investments
 in the intellectual property assets. The essential part of strategic assessment of
 investments in the intellectual property assets/items is to ensure that the
 projects under consideration are aligned with the mission, goals and strategy of
 a given business unit. To make the strategic assessment efficient one should
 embrace the specifics of different strategies employed by the given business
 unit, strategic goals of investment activities, employed strategies of innovation,
 established procedures for using the technique of strategic goals decomposition
 and for creating the balanced scorecard.
