Abstract

Modern development trends characterized by the digitalization of various aspects of people's activities actualize the research attention on the problem of digitalization and its impact on traditional social phenomena and actions. The proliferation of electronic media has led to changes in students' reading practices. Some scholars speak of a reading crisis. The need for a home library - whether to have one, create one, or keep one - has become increasingly debatable. The article analyzes the place of home library in the socio-cultural space of modern Russian students on the basis of the results of empirical research. The results of the answers to the question about the need for a personal library are described. The detailed characteristics of the group of "home library keepers" according to the following indicators are given: gender, financial status, love/dislike for reading works of fiction, frequency and purposefulness of reading practices, sources of information about new books, genre preferences and others. The conclusions presented in the publication will be interesting for a wide range of readers, including educators - to organize contact and independent work of students, as well as the students themselves - to effectively implement their subjectobjective role of the participant of the educational process.
