Abstract

The aim of the study is to determine the features of the lexical variability in the French language, which functions in Switzerland adjacent to the metropolis. The article reveals the features of its lexical-semantic system, gives a description of the lexicographic editions of French Switzerland, which served as reference material for the analysis of vocabulary. Theoretical and methodological aspects of studying the regional forms of the language are considered. The scientific novelty of the study lies in a comprehensive analysis of scientific sources of regional vocabulary and in substantiating the problem of linguistic differentiation in disunited territories. As a result, it is proved that regional languages as components of the French language state are a complex historical category and an intermediate link between the literary language and disappearing dialects.
