Abstract

The aim of the study is to determine the specificity of V. Mart’s urban text in the cultural and literary contexts of the first third of the XX century. The article identifies general trends and literary borrowings that formed the basis of the artistic world of works about Shanghai. The scientific originality of this article lies in the fact that for the first time in Russian literary criticism, literary connections and contexts that are significant for the creative work of V. Mart are identified, and the urban text in his heritage is studied. As a result, it is shown that the author created his works, focusing on O. Spengler’s philosophy and M. Gorky’s creative work. In addition, V. Mart’s prose has a typological similarity with the works of writers who returned from emigration to the USSR in the 1920s.
