Abstract
The article analyzes the essence of the concepts “competence”, “competency”, determines the types of competence, in particular, intercultural, for the purpose of effective interaction with representatives of other cultures. A more detailed analysis of the term “competence” has been made and its components have been identified. It is emphasized on the socio-cultural significance of intercultural competence in modern society. The etymological closeness of the terms “competence” and “competency”, taking into account contemporary domestic and foreign literature, is analyzed. The questions of professional competence in terms of acmeology are covered. The emphasis is on a certain set of knowledge, skills and abilities common to all communicants, for a full-fledged cultural understanding of the partners in communicating with representatives of other cultures in the real field of intercultural communication. The emphasis is placed on the extension of the terms “competency” and “competence” in the twentieth century in various spheres of social and political life. The emphasis was placed on controversy over the term “competence”, which made it possible to manage effectively. The interpretation of these terms in the scientific literature is given. The term “competence” in the sociological aspect is considered. Different interpretations of the phenomenon of competence are presented. The complex structure of social competence is observed, namely, its linguistic, informational and socio-cultural components. The decisive role of the socio-cultural component in communication practice is analyzed as sociocultural competence and readiness and ability for communication between partners in order to conduct the dialogue based on knowledge of their own culture and culture of the interlocutor. The ability to orientate in time and space, understanding of the social status of a partner, the ability to use different language forms and knowledge of intercultural differences are revealed. That, in his practical life a person is connected with the world with numerous relations of the most different nature and must possess the corresponding competencies, the quantity of which is determined by the totality of its relations with the environment. It is emphasized that the general level of competence of the individual consists of a set of specific specific competences.
