Abstract

This study aims to explore ways to make the magazine industry ecosystem sustainable by examining the status of magazine ecosystem components and their limitations by analyzing the magazine market from an ecosystem perspective. Magazine ecosystem refers to a system of value chains established by stakeholders related to the production, distribution, and use of magazine contents. Therefore, in order to analyze the magazine industry ecosystem, various factors constituting the ecosystem are diagnosed according to the life cycle of ‘production(planning and production)-distribution /service-consumption/reproduction’. As a result of the analysis, the domestic magazine industry is evaluated to have not established a virtuous cycle structure despite various adaptation strategies and support policies, and the future sustainable growth potential is weak as the magazine ecosystem is operating in an unhealthy state. Industrial policy tasks to build a virtuous cycle of the magazine industry through mutual activation of the components of the magazine ecosystem should be considered.
