Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the change in perception of successful aging of middle-aged women who participated in the aging preparation education program. Fourteen middle-aged women using the Lifelong Learning Center were selected as subjects for the study, and a 12-week aging preparation education program was conducted. In-depth interviews were conducted with middle-aged women who participated in the aging preparation education program. As a result of the study, the perception of successful aging that appears in the process of applying the aging preparation education program has changed. Changes in perception were found in the factors of successful aging: self-efficacy, aging acceptance, active social activity, and family orientation. Participation in the aging preparation education program helped to look back on past life and restore confidence. Strongly recognizes the importance of social activities in order to live actively through various encounters. They accept aging naturally, think it as a part of life, and adapt. They were asked to be interested in husband and children, but as they showed interest in family first, became a family-oriented. The following conclusions were drawn based on the research results and discussions investigated and analyzed in this study. Through participation in the aging preparation education program, positive changes were found in the perception of successful aging related to self-efficacy, aging acceptance, active social activities, and family orientation. Therefore, the aging preparation education program can be seen as an effective program for the change of successful aging awareness of middle-aged women.
