Abstract
This study analyzed the effects of the length of the bag strings on the walking posture of the students. The subjects were 10 male students in the second grade of middle school (14 years) who have standard height (167.7cm) and weight (60.2kg). It was analyzed through three dimensional image analysis. The followings are the results of the study and the conclusion of the discussion. When holding the bag with long string (Type D), the students showed the reduced stride and forward inclined upper body in order to save the walking energy. It seems that they try to save the energy consumption by reducing walking speed, which means walking holding the bag in Type D wastes much energy. When reducing the length of the strings of the bag (Type C), they inclined the head forward more deeply in average, although there is no significant statistical difference. When walking holding the bag in Type C for a long time, they are likely to have pains, which can be developed into Cervicalgia because the mussels such as splenius capitis and lingissimus capitis which support the head when we lower the head forward. If this symptom repeats everyday for a long time, it gives bad influence on the posture of the middle school students and cause the pains of the neck. Therefore, it is proposed that schools should guide and teach not to hold the bag with the strings adjusted too short or too long.
