During the Tang era, Blue Mansions(靑樓) were a particular place where literary men used for lodging and banquets, and women with special status, courtesans, also acted as independent points of connection through their exchanges with literary men.BR Although Blue Mansions were an exclusive and special place, its platform function expanded due to the high number of literary men using the place, and thus it became the contact point to deliver and diffuse information. Furthermore, among the courtesans who stayed at Blue Mansions, there were many who had distinguished literary talents that matched the literary men. Such literary talents of the courtesans directly exchanged and communicated with the literary men who were of the ruling class, even though these women belonged in the lower class in society. They acted as the middle person to connect the upper and lower classes, so that the information that sprouted from the ruling class would reach the lower classes. As such, they were important in delivering and spreading the culture of the ruling class to the lower class. the literary talents of the courtesans greatly contributed to the minimization of the gap between social classes in the Tang era society.
