Abstract

The article discusses the problems of localization and chronology of a group of the Ionian trans- port amphorae which production is referred to the workshops of Samos, Miletus or Erythrai. The basic event behind these questions was the uncovering of a ground ditch at the Acropolis of Phanagoria in which fragments of ceramic containers of Chios, Mende and an amphora were unearthed. The rim shape and the foot of the amphora are closely associated with Samian amphorae, but the shape of its body is distinguished from them.
