Abstract

This study aims to examine the cases and characteristics of metafashion according to the types of alternative metaverse ecosystems considering technology and economic factors from an industrial perspective. In addition, it intended to discuss the new meaning and value that arises from using the metaverse in fashion and propose ways to use the metaverse that can effectively work in fashion in the future. To collect cases, online and offline research were carried out in parallel, and due to the nature of the metaverse coexisting in virtual space, representative cases were collected without limiting the specific classification of the region. The alternative metaverse ecosystem is divided into infrastructure (data, network), platform, content, and intellectual property rights. In the case of metafashion, most of them are concentrated on intellectual property rights, but it is believed that the platform and content area should be gradually expanded. Through representative cases of metafashion, eco-friendly consciousness was revealed through the “phygital” experience, and NFT issuance and digital conversion of the value chain were found. In addition, various jobs are expected to be derived from the metafashion industry; thus, fashion education needs to be changed for this. This study’s findings are expected to serve as basic data that can help fashion industry to quickly respond to the changes of the times facing the current fashion industry and create high value-added metafashion through value enhancement.
