Abstract

This study criticizes patriarchal sexism in the Korean Church and suggests practical alternatives to reform this gender injustice in the light of the application of the “missional equality.” The Korean Church generally maintains patriarchal clericalism, sex segregation in the sphere of ministry, and exclusion of women in charge of birthing and parenting. This unjust fabric of ministry is disregarding the value of equality in the missional vocation of God’s people, equality in the Holy Spirit’s distribution of missional gifts, and equality in community’s support for one another. Therefore, this paper urges the Korean Church to recover the missional equality by implementing the gender-equity relationship of ministry, providing female ministers the plentiful opportunity to experience diverse fields of ministry, and developing the hospitality for nurturing children.
