Abstract

Phytoestrogens are plant-derived xenoestrogens not generated within the endocrine system but consumed by eating phytoestrogenic plants. Also called “dietary estrogens”, they are a diverse group of naturally occurring nonsteroidal plant compounds that, because of their structural similarity with estradiol (17-β-estradiol), have the ability to cause estrogenic or/and antiestrogenic effects. Phytoestrogen may provide desirable health benefits to reduce the menopausal symptoms. There are various types of phytoestrogens. In an experiment, various estrogens were extracted from kudzu, sophora root and pomegranate by using a ultrasonic extraction process in a various conditions. The results obtained from this will serve as basic data in the study of biology and chemistry related to natural products.
