Abstract

The purpose of the study is to identify peculiarities of consideration of L. N. Tolstoy’s creative work and personality in the Russian emigration’s opinion journalism in Harbin (China). Scientific novelty of the paper lies in studying rare archival materials (the newspapers “Zarya”, “Russkoe Slovo”) to determine the unique nature of perception of L. N. Tolstoy’s personality and creative work in the Far Eastern emigration community. As a result of the study, it was found that Tolstoy’s personality is of considerable interest in emigrant criticism; his creative works are interpreted on the basis of the biographical approach; perception of the writer’s personality is based on memoirs, recollections and eyewitnesses’ observations and is almost completely devoid of apologetics; Tolstoy’s religious and philosophical views are perceived critically.
