Abstract

The article aims to research historical and cultural factors that defined the unique Russian national character and analyse traditions that emerged in the Russian dance culture and now influence the processes involved in creating dance images in professionnal choreographic art. Scientific novelty of the study lies in presenting the Russian national character as a research subject of art criticism. The work is also the first one to consider uniqueness of embodying the Russian national character in folk stage dance. As a result, it was found that historical and cultural factors that influenced the unique Russian national character continue to have a major impact on development of professional choreographic art in line with national traditions.
