Abstract

This study analyzes the rhetorical strategy of Li Si(李斯) “Jianzhukeshu(諫逐客書)”, the leading scholar of ancient Chinese prose. It is known that “Jianzhukeshu (諫逐客書)” was originally written as a remonstrance to the Emperor of the Qin (秦) Dynasty, however I started with the essential question of why the director wrote “Jianzhukeshu (諫逐客書)”. As a result, “Jianzhukeshu (諫逐客書)”, on the surface, cancels the foreigner’s command, but on the back of it, it was able to sense the ambition to gather a thousand people under one person in a unified empire. It is assumed that it has been completed through diligence and rhetorical strategy.BR Specifically, the rhetorical strategy of the “Jianzhukeshu (諫逐客書)” is based on the technique of demonstrating unfairness to foreigners using the merit of the foreigner who brought about the development of Qin (秦), while contrasting the possession of the royal treasures and the talent covering the hometown, and between the content and the colorful form.
