Abstract

Purpose - The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between Industry-University (I-U) cooperation affecting technology innovation and business performance through combination with R&D human resources, technology capability, and government support targeting global companies. Design/Methodology/Approach - Based on existing literature, we reviewed factors expected to affect the technology innovation and business performance of global companies and selected I-U cooperation, R&D human resources, technology capability, and government support. The complex relationship between these factors was proposed as a conceptual research model. Data for analysis was from 613 companies among the 2022 survey data of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. Fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis was used to analyze the data. Findings - The I-U cooperation of global companies was found to be a core condition that affects technology innovation. Even if a company does not utilize government support or has poor technology capabilities, I-U cooperation appears to be an important factor in determining technology innovation. In addition, the R&D human resources of global companies were found to be a core condition that determines technology innovation, and the I-U cooperation of global companies was found to be a core condition that affects business performance. Research Implications - It was revealed that the I-U cooperation of global companies, combined with R&D human resources, technology capability, and government support, is an important factor affecting technology innovation. In addition, it was revealed that the I-U cooperation of global companies is an important factor affecting business performance in combination with R&D human resources, technology capability, government support, and technology innovation.
