Abstract

The national ballet of China was formed under the influence of the Western European and Russian ballet. The first ballet schools in China were opened in Beijing and Shanghai. The authors examine the formation of the Shanghai ballet troupe in the second half of the XX century; reveal the role of foreign choreographers in the work over the performances of classical and modern works for the Shanghai Troupe, as well as analyze the features of the national repertoire. The authors pay special attention to the activities of the Shanghai ballet troupe at present.
