Abstract
To both its ability to express individuality and its suitability for an active lifestyle, the has been a globally popular fashion trend among young people. The goal of this study is to understand the characteristics of military styles worn among young people. The study works to achieve this goal by analyzing the commonalities and differences of military fashion as it has appeared in thestreet fashions of Korea and overseas. 310 photos from two portal sites with high volume of search records for street style in Seoul, and 258 photos of 5 fashion-leading cities (Paris, Milan, London, New York and Tokyo) were collected from a street fashion magazine(STREET) between 2013-2016. The photos were classified by style type and analyzed according to their design elements. The military look was classified into4 styles: mix-and-match, hip-hop, layered, and work wear. In both Seoul and overseas cities, the military look has common design elements, such as field jackets, bomber jackets, pants with pockets, olive-green and khaki colors, and camouflage patterns with green, khaki, and black colors. As for differences, the styles in Seoul used limited kinds of items, similar camouflage patterns, and showed less diversity in styling. On the other hand, overseas street fashion tended to boldly and aggressively express the wearers personalities, using different sizes of camouflage pattern and decorations, and often idiosyncratic mix-and-match styling.
