Abstract

Switchgear consists of circuit breakers(CBs), bus bars, and disconnect switches used to protect, energize, and isolate electrical equipment. It means that switchgear is directly linked to the reliability of the power network by supplying electricity. In many countries, switchgear has generally been operated for more than 50 years through re-manufacturing based on a monitoring system. Also, the power asset management for switchgear has been performed all around the world to operate it efficiently. However, in South Korea, the lifetime of the switchgear is known to be less than 30 years, and re-manufacturing has not been carried out. The lifespan of power facilities has significant relationship in terms of resource efficiency and environmental problem. In this study, monitoring parameters for asset management of domestic switchgear are derived by analyzing the current status of asset management on switchgear implemented by various overseas institutions.
