Abstract

Aim. To evaluate the efficiency of Ahmed valve use for patients with refractory uveal glaucoma (UG). Methods. The effectiveness of the use of the drainage device – Ahmed valve presented on the example of three clinical cases of chronic uveitis with UG. Previosly all the patients had antiglaucomatous surgery, including non-penetrating deep sclerctomy, sinustrabeculectomy, stent surgery with ExPress shunt and subsequent filtering bleb needling Fast scarring was noticed in every case in the area of operation. Prescription of maximal medicamentous therapy was required from 2 to 6 months after the surgery and it was effective for a short period of time. Results. Implantation of Ahmed valve was performed in a period of stable medical remission of uveitis. Postsurgical period was unremarkable, within follow-up for 6–15 months intraocular pressure was normalized without medicamentous therapy, valve position and filtration were stable. Сonclusion. Stent surgery with the use of Ahmed valve for patients with UG gives more stable and prolonged hypotensive effect. Key words: intraocular pressure; uveal glaucoma; antiglaucomatous surgery; Ahmed valve.
