Abstract

The research objective involves a historiographical analysis of contribution of the Kazakh ethnomusicologist, Doctor in Art Criticism Gulzada Omarova to study of the Kazakh kobyz art. Ancient art of the kobyz playing is a poorly investigated field of musicology. Scientific originality of the paper lies in the fact that the researcher for the first time discovers importance of G. Omarova’s works on the Kazakh folk music. The following conclusions are justified: G. Omarova identified the place of the kobyz in the world collection of musical instruments and revealed the essence of the kobyz art as a multi-aspect functional and ideological system.
