Abstract
Studying a foreign language still remains a challenge for many adults in the Russian Federation due to a number of psychological problems: the lack of self confidence, negative past experience etc. However, if the process of study is organized properly, these challenges could be overcome. The process of teaching a foreign language has much in common with psychoanalytical therapy. During foreign language classes, new and often more comfortable speech and activity patterns are formed due to the shift of the focus of attention from content to form, and that gives more freedom to express thoughts and feelings than by means of the native language. The use of language games combined with teacher’s empathy, amiability, tolerance can produce a consistent therapeutic effect.
