Abstract

The purpose of the study is to determine the function of the Slavic motifs in E. Zamyatin’s tragedy “Atilla”. The article considers the Slavic motifs in the aspect of the internal reserve of the motif complex as one of the forms of ensuring artistic integrity of the work which displays features of the author’s presence in the text. The study is novel in that it is the first to consider forms of the Slavic motifs representation in the play “Atilla” and identify their role. The research findings have shown that the Slavic motifs in the text act as a kind of markers that manifest Zamyatin’s historiosophical concept, whose formation was based on D. I. Ilovaysky’s views; the Slavic motifs function in the play is to reference not only artistic images but also the entire artistic-semantic structure of the work.
