Abstract

Objectives The purpose of this study is to analyze & suggest the direction for reseach of the multicultural students' school adaptation-related research in line with the trends of changes in Korean society, which is entering into a multicultural society.
 Methods Among the papers published between 2009 and 2020, 82 papers were selected for analysis through the first to third stages of the collection procedure. Analysis criteria were established by referring to previous studies related to multicultural education. The research tool used is EXCEL, which facilitates descriptive statistical analysis and visualization data creation.
 Results First, as a result of analyzing the quantitative change trend, the number of research articles increased rapidly from 2009. From 2014, which belongs to the mid-term period, it decreased along with the policy change. It increased again in the late period. Second, as a result of analyzing the research purpose trend, empirical studies such as actual condition analysis, improvement measures and application of theory and programs accounted for a high proportion. Third, as a result of analyzing the research topic trend, it was confirmed that the educational aspect research was insufficient. Fourth, as a result of analyzing the trends of the research subjects, the majority of studies were conducted exclusively on students from multicultural families and the research progress on preschool multicultural children, parents and teachers were at a low level. Fifth, as a result of analyzing the school level, elementary school level research was intensively conducted. Sixth, as a result of analyzing the research method trend, a number of quantitative research methods were confirmed.
 Conclusions First, although the importance of studies related to school adaptation of students from multicultural families is emphasized, the research in the late period is low and no change is found. Therefore, we would like to suggest the necessity of revitalizing research. Second, research objectives and research topics need to be more diversified than before and research that deals with educational aspects are required. Third, there is a need to set a wide range of research subjects. Fourth, research at the middle and high school level, which is weak compared to the elementary school level, should be expanded. Fifth, a wide range of research should be conducted using research methods evenly.
