Abstract

Objectives The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of social support within organizations on the turnover intention of new employees and to verify the mediating effect of happiness.
Methods This study is conducted on new employees within organizations whose turnover rate is high; questionnaires of 98 respondents among them, who have been employed for 6 months, were used for the study. In this study, SPSS 22.0 and Process Macro No. 4 model were used to verify the research hypothesis that happiness mediates the relationship between social support and turnover intention, and the statistical significance level in the analysis process was set at 5%.
Results The results of the study are as follows. First, social support has a positive effect on life satisfaction, affect Balance, and meaning of life. Second, social support does not reduce turnover intention. Third, the life satisfaction and the meaning of life of new employees does not lower turnover intention, but affect Balance has a negative effect on turnover intention. Fourth, life satisfaction, affect Balance, and meaning of life are the mediating factors between social support and turnover intention, since social support for new employees enhances their happiness, and this serves as a medium that negatively affects their turnover intention. Thus, social support does not directly decrease turnover intention but can weaken it by promoting the happiness of employees.
Conclusions This result indicates that employees’ happiness is a very important factor that needs to be managed strategically. Based on the findings, this study suggests implications and further researches from an educational perspective to enhance social support and happiness.
