Abstract
The name of an infectious disease in Eastern literature varies from ‘癘’ to ‘瘟疫’, ‘惡疾’, ‘時氣’, and ‘疫’, and the current research has merely defined all of them as an infectious disease with fever. This analysis focused on ‘惡疾’, which had been interpreted simply as an infectious disease in the historical literature. Because of the limited research on it in the medical field, it was speculated to be either just an infectious disease with fever or an endemic disease of unknown causes. This is mainly due to the limited records of the disease. By expanding the scope of references using the relevant literature recently discovered in China, and by reinterpreting the references in medicine and historical studies that had not been analysed by way of graphonomic analysis, it seemed highly probable to assume that 惡疾 was originally not an infectious disease with fever, but should be regarded as leprosy.<BR> This paper deduces meaning through a literal analysis of
