Abstract

The article studies the main provisions of the formation of the skills of speed reading, describes the main methods that allow a reader to increase the percentage of information thatremains in the memory of a person after reading the text. It is emphasized that the speed, which is the maximum and at which an individual is able to fully comprehend the read, cannot exceed 1000 words. The research proves the point that reading speed should be evaluated in signs that a person can read in one minute, while fathoming the content of the text. It also highlights some requirements for a teacher who seeks to teach a child to read faster. Particular attention is paid to factors that may indicate a low level of reading skillsdevelopment: limited vocabulary, poor articulation, rereading previous sentences or lines. There are a number of exercises that allow one to develop speed reading skills: tongue-twisters, word games, games “Find a Word”, "Shop", "Computer", "Sing-a-Song", "A Pair for Vavara", "Field of Dreams", viewing a page, read only consonant letters, compilinganagrams.
