Abstract
This article formulates some energy transition trends - changes in the structure of production and consumption of energy resources, geographic features of energy markets. An overview of the resource base of Russian energy companies is given, directions for the possible transformation of business segments to ensure economic sustainability in the long term are shown. For the hydrogen business segment, as an example of business diversification, estimates of the cost of hydrogen production are presented, examples of hydrogen energy projects of Russian oil and gas companies are given, as well as key factors that should be taken into account when developing a hydrogen diversification business strategy.
