Abstract

The impurity composition of diborane synthesized by the hydrogenation reaction of boron chloride was studied for the first time using the method of gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. To separate impurities, the possibilities of using capillary columns GS-GasPro 60 m × 0.32 mm with silica gel as a sorbent, GS-CarbonPLOT 25 m × 0.32 mm × 0.25 μm with a carbon sorbent and a DB-5MS column 30 m × 0 .32 mm × 0.25 µm with methylsiloxane. Impurities were identified by comparing their mass spectrum with those known from the literature. In diborane, impurities of higher boranes B4 – B10, cyclohexane and toluene were identified. Boranes B6 – B10, cyclohexane and toluene were discovered for the first time. The mass spectrum of B9H15, which is absent in the literature, was obtained and described.
