Abstract

The paper presents the results of a study of options for compacting fine iron-containing materials for metallurgical processing. The authors have proposed a method that involves the use of, in addition to an iron-containing material, a thermoplastic binder material. In this case, aggregation of the mixture and strengthening of the resulting aggregates is carried out simultaneously in a closed mold under the influence of pressure and temperature not lower than the softening temperature of the thermoplastic material. It is possible to obtain a compact unit, convenient for storage and transportation, that successfully performs the functions of a charge component during cupola and blast furnace melting of cast iron.
