Abstract

The article analyzes the basic provisions of understanding myths and mythological archetypes that are typical for ps ychoanalysis, analytical and post-Jungian psychology. The generalizing analysis of the main works of authoritative specialists in mythology (J. Campbell and M. Eliade) is presented. The functions of the universal mythological archetypes of mankind are revealed. National archetypes, which are the ideological dominants of the national identity of the Russian people in the pre-industrial period, are considered. The main characteristics of modern myth-making are identified.
