Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the mediating effect of teacher efficacy on the adult attachment and the interaction relationship between teachers and children. To achieve the research goal, this study analyzes data collected from 201 teachers who work in the 3 to 5 year old classes of the kindergartens and daycare centers located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, South Korea from April. 18th to June 1st, 2022. For data analysis, IBM/SPSS 26.0 and Process Macro programs are used to check the descriptive statistics and internal consistency and conduct correlation analysis and mediating regression analysis. The analyzed data show the following results. First, teachers' adult attachment has negative correlation with teacher efficacy, but it has positive correlation with teacher-child interaction. Second, the partial mediating effect of teacher efficacy is found in the effect of adult attachment on the interaction between teachers and children. This research outcomes imply that teacher efficacy is the influential factor that enhances high-quality teacher-child interactions and diminishes the negative effect of adult attachment. The implications and suggestions for follow-up studies are provided based on the research outcomes.
