Abstract
This study conducted a Delphi study to develop items of a social emotional screening instrument that can identify and screen the social-emotional development of young children birth to 78 months old. First, items and areas were derived through in-depth review of the related literature and previous developed social-emotional instruments. Then, a Delphi panel consisting of 14 professionals and field experts in the early childhood education, early childhood special education, special education, developmental psychology, and medical mental health field provided two times of Delphi analyses. Descriptive statistics for item clarity and item validity, content validity ratio(CVR), degree of consensus, and degree of convergence were analyzed. As a result, a total of 81 items were derived, consisting of 30 items of social interaction, 14 items of self-regulation, 14 items of independence, 10 items of emotional development, 7 items of self-concept, 6 items of challenging behaviors. Lastly, it is suggested that the study is significant in presenting a fundamental data for constructing a valid social emotional screening instrument through Delphi analysis. Future research is suggested to conduct standardisation studies including determining cutoff scores, reliability, and validity.
