Abstract

This is a follow-up study of the paper entitled “A Study on Thermal Performance Comparison according to Chevron Angles of Plate Heat Exchanger.” The subjected plate heat exchanger has a porthole diameter of 150 mm and has been widely used in many industries such as general plants, petrochemical, marine and power plants. In the previous study, three different chevron plates with 30°, 45° and 60° had been experimentally tested to find out their thermal performance characteristics. Based on the experimental data obtained in the previous study, the correlations were developed for predicting Nusselt number and friction factor in the plate heat exchanger in this study, and the developed correlations were compared with experimental data to verify their accuracy. As a result of the comparison, it was found that the correlations for Nusselt number have an accuracy of ±3%, and an accuracy of ±2% for friction factor with the experimental data within experimental ranges. In addition, the developed correlations in this study were compared with those of other previous studies, and the comparison results are also presented.
